The Premier Speedway Club, Warrnambool has today announced that a change has been made to the dates for the running of the 2011 Lucas Oils Australian Sprintcar Championship.
Earlier releases and the Club’s initial proposal to the Sprintcar Control Council of Australia had slated the Title for decision on the weekend of February 4 and 5, 2011, now having taken into consideration the proposed scheduling of other major venues along the Eastern sea board an opportunity has been created to showcase the Australian Title inside the Victorian School Holiday window, which will no doubt please those families planning on attending the 49th running of this prestigious event.
The two key dates that all Sprintcar fans need to be aware of are now as follows:
The 39th Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic will be held on Saturday January 22 & 23, 2011 and the Lucas Oils Australian Sprintcar Championship will be decided a week later on Friday January 28 and Saturday January 29, 2011.
Premier Speedway General Manager David Mills explains the thought process behind the change.
“As a Club, we had a rough idea of what the other major venues were thinking with regards to their 2011 scheduling and it was only after this year’s Classic that I touched base with a couple of other promoters to determine their preferred dates”, Mills said.
“Basically it became apparent that a spare weekend had been created via the preferred dates for some other major events, which in-turn created a window of opportunity for us to bring both the Classic and the Lucas Oils Australian Sprintcar Championship forward a week, which enables us to encompass both events within the school holidays”, he added.
“We truly appreciate the fact that many, many people have already enquired about the dates, which in turn has led to bookings with regards to accommodation and the like, but we hope that those that are inconvenienced can re-schedule and join us for what promises to be a great week to ten days of Speedway in Warrnambool”, Mills said.
The change in scheduling also helps align the Classic in between the proposed dates for the 2011 Chilli Bowl and the beginning of the US season, which obviously will assist the Premier Speedway Club in trying to attract American drivers and teams to the Classic weekend.
The Management of Premier Speedway has already been in contact with the Warrnambool Tourism Association and the respective accommodation houses in Warrnambool to assist those that have made bookings.
A proposed schedule of events for the 49th Lucas Oils Australian Sprintcar Championship and the 39th Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic is as follows:
Saturday January 22, 2011 – Night Number One of the 2011 Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic. Sunday January 23, 2011 – Night Number Two if the 2011 Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic.
