Doukas Best Of The Young Guns At Sungold Stadium
Sunday, 14 March 2010 by Gavin White

Warrnambool’s Peter Doukas enjoyed an excellent night at Sungold Stadium when he took the win in the Yeoman Williams Memorial Junior Sedan event on Saturday, March 13. A tight battle for the minor podium positions ended with Chris Bellman edging clear of Peter Kinnear in the hotly contested event.

Doukas jumped to the early lead over Kinnear however a red light stoppage soon halted proceedings when Lachie Reeves inverted his Charade on the main straight. Fortunately Reeves walked away and was keen to check the onboard camera was intact and reminded everyone to keep an eye on You Tube for the spectacular footage that he will post this week!

Bellman was in the mix from the start while Mick Gorman and Mitch Whiting were making their way toward the front. Alex Ross and James Morgan also qualified well while Terry Rankin was racing his way forward.

Fourth starting Mick Gorman slammed the turn four wall and suffered some ankle soreness before being taken out of his racecar.

Before Doukas would take the win there was another spectacular exit by Alex Ross as he rolled the #9 following contact on the main straight. Once again the young driver managed to walk away unharmed ensuring the safety of Junior Sedan racing is superb.

Doukas managed to stay clear of his rivals to win the 20 lap A-main ahead of Bellman and Peter Kinnear. Mitch Whiting’s strong season continued as he raced into fourth ahead of Mark Kinnear, Chris Heard and Terry Rankin.

Geelong’s Ashlee Harris won the non-stop B-main ahead of Reeves, Kent Collins and Michael Skene.

Peter Kinnear won the first heat of the night from Terry Rankin with Mitch Whiting starting well back and making his way to third. Mick Gorman won the second heat ahead of Chris Bellman and Mark Kinnear in another non stop heat race. Peter Doukas carved his way forward from ninth starting spot to win heat 3 ahead of Chris Heard and James Morgan in third.

Heat four was a carbon copy of the previous heat as Doukas worked his way forward to win while thirteenth starting Peter Kinnear raced to second ahead of Luke McCutcheon. Alex Ross won heat 5 ahead of Jake Veal and James Morgan. Chris Bellman managed to race from deep in the field to win the final heat of the night from Whiting and Gorman rounding out the top 3.

A reminder that the Race Info Line 9513 5555 contains all the information for upcoming events.
