TK and Gio Scelzi In For Classic

Two Americans with vastly different levels of experience, but with bucket loads of talent are amongst the latest entrants for the 2019 South West Conveyancing Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic.

The Classic Champion of 2014, Tim Kaeding, who comes from San Jose, California will again be piloting the Wayne Cole backed VA6 entry with support from Nelson Asphalting, Fitzgerald Builders and Yarra Valley Towing.

In 2018, Kaeding contested the Classic for Cole, keeping all in attendance captivated with his all or nothing approach as he fielded a damaged car after an early heat race incident.

His Sunday night charge concluded with a 20th place finish in B Main 1.

His American season yielded some great results, in what were essentially part-time rides, including fielding a second car for good friend Jason Sides.

His World of Outlaws Record for 2018 comprised of just ten starts, five of which were Top 5’s, while nine of the 10 produced top ten results.

His time at Knoxville Raceway in August was most productive with a tenth-place finish in the Knoxville 360 Nationals, a result which paled when compared to the following week when he finished fifth in the Saturday night A-Main behind Brad Sweet, Donny Schatz, Kyle Larson and Aaron Reutzel.

Kaeding would also power his way from 11th to second in what would become the final World Challenge event.

A late season broken ankle, put paid to his racing year, just as he was producing some more brilliant form in his native California.

No matter where he runs, Kaeding will be one to watch at the Classic, however he may have a rival for excitement in another Californian in Gio Scelzi.

At just 16 years of age, Scelzi, is fast…. Very fast and showed all and sundry the immense talent he possesses by becoming the youngest ever World of Outlaws Feature event winner at Williams Grove in Pennsylvania on September 28, 2018. Incidentally he also became the youngest A-Main winner at the Famed Williams Grove in the process.

Having contested 63 races in 2018, Scelzi recorded 3 wins and 20 top 5’s from 31 top 10 finishes.

He claimed Rookie of the Year Honors at the 2018 Chili Bowl, the same award he collected at the National Open as well as becoming the youngest ever driver, eclipsing the previous mark as set by Jeff Gordon, to qualify directly into a Knoxville Nationals A-Main, where he would pilot the Bernie Stuebgen Indy Race Parts 71 car, eventually recording a 14th place finish.

The Indy Race Parts USA71 of Gio Scelzi will be one to watch at the Classic as he is destined for big things, with car owner Bernie Stuebgen having been quick to identify the talent that Scelzi possesses.

Joining the pair of hard charging Americans in another posse of Australian Talent all eager to make their mark on the 47th running of the Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic.
