The 2025 Flying Horse Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic will introduce a revised race format for the event following an off-season review.
Premier Speedway General Manager Michael Parry describes the 2025 format as “including a bit of the old blended with the new!”. We have consulted the various stakeholders from both sides of the fence to arrive at a format that better suits both fans and competitors alike said Parry.
Key areas that were highlighted through the process.
- Heat racing on the final night
- Better reward drivers charging through the field in the preliminary nights
- Earlier finish on the final night
The Preliminary nights action from a program perspective will look similar but the points structure has been amended to provide a greater opportunity for drivers to race their way back into contention. The new format will enable drivers who can race their way forward in the preliminary A-Main to claw back some positions leading into the final night, or even lock themselves into the ‘Classic’ A-Main.
The top four (4) Preliminary A-Main finishers from each night lock themselves into the ‘Classic’ A-Main.
Night three contains the largest changes none more so than the return of a round of heat races!
The changes see a maximum of eighty cars competing on night three to ensure the racing program finishes at a more desired time.
Following the round of heats eight more cars will be locked into the ‘Classic’ A-Main while the remainder of the field contest the C-Main or pair of B-Mains to find their way into the $40,000 to win ‘Classic’ A-Main to fill the final eight positions.
Preliminary night key changes
- Revised points structure across qualifying, heats and preliminary features including more points on the Preliminary feature.
- Removal of passing points in Preliminary features
- The top four (4) cars from each Preliminary A-Main will lock themselves into the top eight (8) starting positions in the ‘Classic’ A-Main.
Night 3 key changes
- Field will consist of the eight (8) cars locked into the ‘Classic’ A-Main plus the top 72 cars (merged) in points forming an eighty (80) car field
- A round of heats (6 in total) will be conducted for the 72 cars still vying for a position in the ‘Classic’ A-Main field
- 24 car B-Main fields
