The opening night of racing at Sungold Stadium Premier Speedway saw one of Australia’s best in Jock Goodyer lead every lap to claim the $5000 in the opening round of the SRA Open Sprintcar Series sponsored by 3YBFM and Coast FM.

Goodyer won the 30-lap feature race from Jamie Veal and Brock Hallett while round 1 of the Wingless Sprints Super Series saw Travis Millar grab victory ahead of Luke Weel and Blake Walsh.

Goodyer’s night got off to a flyer when he won the Staffords Jewellery Quick Time award setting the fastest lap in time trials recording 10.678 seconds from Parker Scott 10.755.

Goodyer finished third in his heat behind winner James McFadden with other heat winners being Chad Gardner, Brett Milburn and Daniel Pestka.

The A Dash helped set up Goodyer’s win when he grabbed pole position winning easily from Hallett, McFadden and Veal.

The star Tasmanian grabbed the lead quickly and was never headed averaging 11.764 laps the quickest of any car in the race.

Veal tried hard and dived under Goodyer to briefly grab the lead early but it was short-lived as the former national champion pinched it back from Veal.

From this point nothing changed as the top four stayed in sight of each other.

McFadden was forced out with steering issues as James Oliver also was out when he rolled in turn two.

Marcus Dumesny won the MWE Electrical Hard Charger award after blasting from 16th to fifth and the Warrnambool Crane Hire Hard Luck Award went to Oliver after crashing heavily on lap 12.

It was the 13th night of competition for Goodyer and he was pleased with how his team is already performing.

“It’s always good to come here to Premier Speedway and do well, or win and I come away pretty happy with our efforts tonight,” Goodyer said.

“I’m happy to do well in this quality field and I think it shows how settled we have things in our team. We will push on and see what else we can improve on and hopefully keep grabbing some wins.”

Millar set a new 25-lap track record of 6:14.25 in round 1 of the Victorian Wingless Sprints breaking the old record of 6:15.94 set by Daniel Storer.

The next meeting at Premier Speedway is on November 15 with the 360-LS Sprintcars – SRA Series, Modified Sedans, VMPA Series and the annual Jack Willsher Cup for Formula 500s sponsored by Go Traffic.
